JUDGES
JUDGING CRITERIA
3-judge format, independent scoring, all scores count. Judges from United States, Canada and Peru.
Evaluations will be based on a balance of the positive traits for fiber, soundness and conformation as recognized by the alpaca industry.
Uniformity of positive fleece characteristics will be a priority:
- Huacaya - fineness, density, crimp character, staple length, brightness, hand.
- Suri - luster, independent lock structure, fineness, density, handle, staple length.
Alpacas must have a minimum of 4 inches of fleece; no maximum restrictions apply. Fiber staple may be stretched for 4-inch measurement. Alpacas should be presented in a clean natural condition.

Mary Reed, USA
- Past AOBA judge and clinic coordinator.
- Familiar with 3-judge system.
- Breeder with more than 20 years of experience.
Andy Tillman, USA
- Past camelid judge familiar with 3-judge system.
- Instrumental in show formations and judging criteria.
- Breeder with more than 30 years of experience.
- Has done extensive research on suri fiber using scanning electron microscopy.
Dr. Danilo Pezo, Peru
- Current official Peruvian alpaca judge.
- Worked under Dr. Julio Sumar past 3 years.
- Judged past Cusco National and '07 Fiesta National Shows.
- Veterinarian in research development at San Marcos National University in Cusco, Peru.
HUACAYA JUDGES (2008)
Jane Tellier, Canada
- Trained as a judge in both Peru and North America, under ALSA, IAJS, and AOBA.
- Has over a decade of experience judging alpacas in the USA and Canada.
- Served as a Judge Trainer of AOBA Apprentice Halter Judges for several years.
Dr. Renzo Morante, Peru
- Current working judge under Dr. Julio Sumar.
- Selection and management of Hunt Peruvian Importations.
- Show director for International Alpaca Fiesta '07.
- Veterinarian with extensive camelid and dairy experience.
Shannon McConnell, USA
- Certified AOBA judge with 5 years experience.
- Familiar with 3-judge system; judged ALSA shows.
- Breeder with 10 years' experience with alpacas and sheep.
- Co-founder of Indiana show.
